Homegrown Hotrods

About us

Home Grown Hot Rods is a one-stop shop which caters for all enthusiasts - from the home builder to those who require a turn-key hot rod.

We have been operating in Southend for a decade, and during this time have built over 20 turn-key cars, plus a great many more chassis kits for customers throughout Europe.

In spite of a full blown recession, activity at HGHR’s shows no sign of slowing down this year. Some of our longer term projects are nearing completion and in addition to this, we recently rolled out of the workshop, Hubert Hangres’ Hilborn-injected ZZ502 Chevy-equipped all-steel roadster. It’s very near to completion and will soon be off to its home in Germany.

We’re particularly pleased with Hubert’s car. It’s as different as anything we’ve done and the first car we’ve assembled with an electronic Hilborn injection system.

Sadly the picture hides much of the detail, such as the rolled and louvered rear pan plus other lovely chassis details.

More photos and a information about this car are contained in our Gallery section, or you can read the full feature story about it in the April 09 edition of Custom Car.

Interestingly, our reputation seems to be spreading in Europe, as evidenced by Hubert’s car, which will shortly be going home to Germany, as well as by the fact that we are preparing to start on Jose’s pristine, stock ’34 five-window coupe. The Ford will be chopped and equipped with a 400hp Chevy before being returned to its owner, in Portugal.

Almost all of the projects lined up for 2011 have high horsepower motors and we're hoping that we can put a little more "hot" into hot rods this year.

A somewhat late bit of news, but you may not know that Graham Jones picked up a NSRA Top 10 award with his HGHRs-built '29 Model A Sedan at last year's Nationals held at Old Warden, Herts. See the Gallery for more photos and details of this car.
